Eco Boat Care

Eco-Daisy’s dads company rigs superyachts so she has grown up messing about in boats, big and small.  Unfortunately, many of the products commonly used to polish and shine the decks, hull and fittings are toxic to the environment. Phosphates and other detergent additives can encourage algae growth, deplete oxygen in the water, burn and irritate plant and animal life and cause permanent damage to the ecosystem.

Eco-Daisy loves the sea and oceans and is passionate about keeping the blue ‘green’.  Watching the multitude of products containing lots of toxic nasty chemicals being used on the yachts, Eco-Daisy searched for an effective eco friendly alternative and discovered ‘Riptide’.

Ultra modern, bio-degradable formulas are key to the concept of this range. The ease of use, cleaning power and sparkling results have proved to be exceptional, providing the most effective and environmentally friendly cleaning products ever seen on-board.  And they’re brilliant for cleaning the house, office, car, shed, anywhere, in fact!

Keeping a boat lovely and clean doesn’t have to damage the environment.

Body Care - Organic & Natural Skincare Products

With her Dad’s rigging business operating out of Cornwall and Hampshire, Eco-Daisy has spent most of her school holidays in Cornwall, sailing, surfing and shopping in Falmouth.  Searching for eco friendly sunscreen and skincare products for the boating world and beyond Eco-Daisy discovered Trevarno Organic Skincare, just down the road from Falmouth.Trevarno Organic Skincare are the first and longest established UK organic skin care manufacturer certified by the Organic Farmers and Growers which is one of the UK's largest organic certification bodies approved by DEFRA. This guarantees the purity of the range and assures that products are both ethical and sustainable, just like all of Eco-Daisy’s products. The natural and organic high performance skin care products do not contain any parabens, synthetics, detergents, harsh chemicals nor are they tested on animals. The products are handmade using traditional production methods and only the purest plant extracts are used to offer a healthy and completely natural alternative to mainstream beauty products. And since only the purest & highest grade natural and organic ingredients are used in production, a little goes a long way!

Eco-Daisy is developing her very own range of eco skincare products, too.  She will post more information about this soon.

Eco Daisy Clothes

Eco Daisy has searched the world of ‘green clothing’ and sourced a high quality and stylish range of crew clothing and casual wear that is the ethical choice -: a responsible alternative that will leave a minimal environmental footprint, and make a positive difference to the people at every stage in production as well as being better for you too!

Fabric made from bamboo, organic cotton and recycled fleece all feature in the Eco Daisy range.

BAMBOO CLOTHING

Better for you…..

‘Bamboo Soft’ – fabric made from Bamboo is incredibly soft, smooth and luxuriously comfortable.

‘Bamboo Dry’ – absorbs and evaporates sweat in a split second.  It doesn’t stick to the skin.  It’s extraordinary natural breathability keeps you comfortable and dry for longer.

‘Bamboo Thermo-control’ – bamboo fabric is highly breathable in hot weather and also keeps you significantly warmer in the cold.  Keeping you more comfortable in all temperatures -  ‘Air conditioned clothing’

‘Bamboo Fresh’ – bamboo is antibacterial, forever.  By killing almost all bacteria, bamboo stays fresher and odour free for longer, is more hygienic and healthier.

‘Bamboo Protective - It's also UV protective (it cuts out 98% of harmful UV rays) and anti fungal, so it's just better, whether it's on you sailing in the Med or stuffed at the bottom of your bag for days on end

…Better for the environment

Bamboo is 100% naturally grown, without assistance from man.  Bamboo is 100% sustainable

Bamboo thrives naturally without using any pesticides or fertilizers and Bamboo fibre is 100% biodegradable

As the fastest growing plant in the world, bamboo grows to its maximum height in about 3 months and reaches maturity in 3-4 years.  It spreads rapidly across large areas. Because of this, bamboo is known to improve soil quality in degraded and eroded areas of land.

If organic clothing made from bamboo becomes popular, it means more bamboo plantations, which means more photosynthesis and less greenhouse gas.  “The greatest challenge facing mankind” would get just a little easier!

ORGANIC COTTON CLOTHING

Everyone is familiar with the health and environmental benefits organically grown food but what about our clothes? Non-organic cotton is one of the most intensively farmed crops in the world and production involves the extensive and damaging use of soil fumigants, synthetic fertilisers, highly toxic pesticides, herbicides, fungicides and defoliants, all of which can lead to a multiple of health and environmental problems and accounts for one quarter of global pesticide use.  This has alarming environmental and social consequences.

By contrast, organic cotton is grown without the use of synthetic fertilisers, growth regulators, chemical pesticides, irrigation or genetic engineering, helping to protect our people and planet. It is the sustainable choice for cotton products.

Some facts about cotton production:

Conventional Cotton:

Conventional cotton farming uses only about 3% of total farmland but consumes 25% of the chemical pesticides and fertilisers used globally
Over 8000 chemicals can be used to turn cotton into a t-shirt; this amounts to approximately 150 grams of acutely toxic pesticides and insecticides per t-shirt.
In some areas, the cost of chemicals is now reaching 60% of farmer's production costs, often causing intolerable debts for millions of poor farmers;
According to WHO estimates, at least 20,000 deaths and 1 million long-term acute poisonings are caused by pesticides each year
Cotton pesticides can enter the food chain through processed foods that contain cotton seed oil, and also through meat and dairy products as cows are often fed cottonseed meal and graze on contaminated land.
Chemicals used in conventional cotton farming contaminate the water table
Conventional cotton farming damages and disrupts the natural biodiversity of an area, often irreversibly.

Organic Cotton:

Organic cotton farmers do not use artificial pesticides or herbicides for pest control.
Instead of chemically feeding the plants, the organic farmer will apply nitrogen-rich manure and plant nitrogen-fixing cover crops.
Crop rotation is at the core of organic crop production, providing nutrients to the soil, helping prevent pest, weed and disease problems and maintaining the soil structure.
Organic cotton production ultimately leads to long term and sustainable prevention, which as everyone knows, is better than a quick-fix cure
In turn this benefits the farmers and their communities in the following ways, reduces debt, reduces pollution and increases biodiversity and productivity.
Organic cotton has an open supply chain, meaning that it can be traced back to the field it was grown in. This close monitoring means that we can be sure that organic cotton is also GM free.

So it’s better for you, the environment and our people!

RECYCLED FLEECE – coming soon

Eco-Daisy is about to extend her range of environmental clothing to include fleece products made from recycled plastic bottles. It is a brilliant way of reusing what would otherwise be landfilled.

Towels

All the towels in Eco-Daisy’s range are environmentally friendly and home grown, (made in the UK)!

Super Soft Bamboo Towels

Bamboo is not only the star of Eco Daisy’s clothing range, it’s the natural green, eco-friendly material for towels too! It’s 100% natural cellulose fibre which is converted into yarns without the addition of chemicals, it is 100% biodegradable in soil, causing no pollution to the environment. Of course the towels won't biodegrade while you use them, simply over a long period of time and once they return back to the earth!

The towels are the ultimate eco luxury!  Bamboo fibre is filled with various micro-spaces and micro-holes, that give it a moisture absorption rate that is 3 times higher than cotton! They have an ultra soft feel, yet have a high abrasion-proof capacity, making them extremely durable and hard wearing. And, bamboo is antibacterial, forever.  By killing almost all bacteria, bamboo stays fresher and odour free for longer, making it more hygienic and healthier than convention cotton..  The towels are woven using bamboo for the pile (loops) and cotton for the backing (70% bamboo, 30% cotton).

Care instructions:

Please handle the towels carefully to prevent snagging of the loops (zips, broken nails, rings etc) prior to the first wash, when the slight fibre shrinkage can take place, and "bind" the loops more firmly into the cloth, making them ready for use.

Wash at 40 degrees centigrade, then you can tumble dry if desired at a low to medium heat settings.  Do not use fabric softener on towels.

Eco Luxury Organic Cotton Towels

Another great eco alternative using another star textile from Eco-Daisy’s clothing range – organic cotton, made of 550gsm deep pile organically grown and harvested terry cotton towelling, the 100% certified organic cotton towels are super soft, sumptuous and absorbent.

The range comes three sizes and one colour - unbleached natural cotton "Cream" (natural off-white). No dyes are used because Eco-Daisy feels that it is pointless producing an item ethically, then dying it which harms the environment and the cloth.

Organic cotton is raw cotton that is produced by farms where No synthetic chemical pesticides, herbicides and fertilizers have been used for at least three years!

The towels are certified by I.M.O, the Swiss based accredited agency for inspection and certification of organic and sustainable production. The organic cotton producers used are inspected by I.M.O regularly and this ensures these towels are produced by adhering to the strict EU regulations and standards imposed organic and ethical production.

Care Instructions:

Fabric softener should never be used for towels as it gradually clogs up the cotton fibres in the yarn, leading to reduced absorbency and a gradual retention of any odours present.

These towels will soften and lighten with each wash.  Also, don’t tumble dry too hot and you will find that they remain fluffy and absorbent.

Recycled Stationary, Glasses & Bags

RECYCLED STATIONARY

Eco-Daisy offers a range of exclusive recycled stationery and eco-friendly stationery for your boat, home, office, anywhere, to help you on your green journey and keep our planet a happier, greener place!

The notepads are made from 100% recycled paper, the pencils from recycled newspaper and pens from recycled CD cases.

GREEN GLASS

Eco-Daisy has found some really great recycled drinking glasses from Green Glass, in Cornwall, that have been made from recycled wine bottles and beer bottles that are thrown away in recycle bins. By choosing the recycled glasses you really are helping to close the recycling loop and stop these products going to landfill.

The glasses are made in a factory in Cornwall that has been designed especially to use the minimum energy in production and create as little impact on the environment as possible. The glasses are made by cutting away the base of the bottle, polishing the edges and bonding the neck to form the foot. There you have it an upside down bottle glass. As the glasses aren't melted down, they save 90% of the energy normally used to make recycled glass. The processes are designed to be as energy efficient as possible and all water used in the factory is filtered and reused.

Every bottle goes through seven different processes in its transformation to a glass. Each glass is cut, the edge ground and then melted to create a smooth surface to drink from. To make the glasses as strong and hard-wearing as possible they are then annealed in a long oven at varying temperatures for 2 hours. Once out of the oven the glasses are printed and sandblasted with funky designs.

From start to finish it takes about 3 hours for a bottle to go through the process of transformation into a wine glass!

RECYCLED BAGS

All Eco-Daisy’s stylish crew bags are made from recycled sails or sail offcuts, keeping even more waste from our landfill sites.
